A recitation competition in which US high schoolers memorize and perform published poems for judges rather than writing original work, progressing from the classroom to school, state and national competitions. State champions travel to Washington DC for the national semifinals and finals each spring.

Entry fee: Free
Prize: 20,000 dollars for the National Champion, with prizes down to 1,000 dollars for the next six finalists and smaller awards at the state level.
